Marianjoy Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Internship/Field Work Program

Therapeutic Sports and Recreation Department at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital has modified our internship/fieldwork program to expand volunteer opportunities for students wishing to gain clinical experience prior to the Senior Internship.

We now offer 5 options for students to accumulate volunteer/fieldwork hours at Marianjoy:

• Observation/Job Shadow – Maximum of 8 hours (No “hands-on” experience)
• Level 1 – Minimum of 30 hours
• Level 2 – Minimum of 100 hours
• Level 3 – Minimum of 200 hours
• Senior Internship – (15 weeks)

Each level of the student program has a designated minimum number of volunteer hours required and various responsibilities/projects to be completed by student during the time at Marianjoy to make the experience mutually educational and beneficial.  Students will gain exposure to patients of various ages and diagnoses and have the opportunity to observe, assist, plan and implement various 1:1, small and large group events under supervision of CTRS.  Students will also be introduced to clinical documentation (including assessments, progress notes and discharge notes).

Due to the amount of hospital orientation required, only students who are willing to make the commitment for the minimal time requirement for each level will be accepted.  All paperwork will be signed-off upon completion of agreed hours.  Students should also be aware there are pre-requisites (required health forms, proof of vaccinations, CPR certification, etc…) that need to be submitted prior to experience.
