The Center for Medically Fragile Children at Providence Child Center is the only pediatric skilled nursing facility in the Pacific Northwest, providing 24-hour long-term, short-term, sub-acute, respite and end-of-life care to medically fragile children and young people ranging in age from infancy to 21 years in Portland, Oregon.
Our interdisciplinary care team assesses and treats complex medical conditions. They monitor symptoms, administer medications and provide leading-edge therapies, such as the Providence Child Center Snoezelen room and aquatic therapy in our in-house Jacuzzi.
Many of our children attend classes at Portland public schools; others receive individualized education on site. All children have the opportunity to participate in Providence Child Center activities and therapeutic recreation groups, including Wii, gardening, movement, arts and crafts, music groups, animal assisted therapy and field trips to local kid-friendly venues.
The Therapeutic Recreation Department consists of 2 full time Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist’s and 5 Therapeutic Recreation Aides, who are also Certified Nursing Assistants. At this time we are accepting applications for 2 sixteen week CTRS internships starting summer of 2017.
