Below are the description for two lifeguarding summer internship positions with the SCA and the National Park Service. SCA is looking for candidates with lifeguarding certifications to participate in these expense paid internships. Interested students need to fill out an internship application on our website www.thesca.org and have the availability to participate in the internships. The Canaveral National Seashore lifeguarding internship will require candidates to have their lifeguarding certifications uploaded onto our digital application. Canaveral Recreation Aid
Expected Dates: May 17, 2015 to September 12, 2015

Serves as Lifeguard responsible for public safety, conducts water oriented assists and rescues. Assists visitors with First Aid and administers CPR if necessary. Roves the beach conducting public outreach by interpreting beach regulations, providing environmental education to enhance the understanding of coastal beach hazards and improve public safety.
Monitors surf conditions, and makes recommendations for closures by posting appropriate warning flags at beach access points. Provides warnings and assists with beach evacuation in the event of impending lighting storms or other emergencies.
Participated in coastal cleanup programs and polices the seashore for environmental hazards.
Assists maintenance crew with comfort station cleaning if necessary.
Provides other duties as assigned when inclement weather prevents beach access.
Certification Requirements: American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, Standard or Advanced First Aid, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Certifications must be from a nationally recognized organization, such as the American Red Cross, the YMCA, American Heart Association and the United States Lifeguard Association. Please upload your CPR certification and Lifeguard certification when you apply. Must be able to swim in an Ocean environment at least 600 yards in 10 minutes.
Employment Period: Labor Day thru Memorial Day, weekends and holidays.
Must successfully pass ATV training provided by the park if allowed to operate ATV/UTV vehicles in the park.
Location Description:
Canaveral National Seashore- Since ancient times, this barrier island has provided sanctuary to both people and wildlife. Many threatened animals find refuge here, including sea turtles who nest on its shores. Like Indians and early settlers, you too can find tranquility. Swim in the ocean. Fish in the lagoon. Recreation Assistant Intern

Serves as recreation assistant and lifeguard at Sliding Rock on the Pisgah Ranger District. Assist with observation of recreational users, visitor education and information, site maintenance, crowd control, and various other recreation projects. A lifeguard or swift water rescue certification is required.
Sliding Rock is a waterfall in Western North Carolina, so named because visitors can slide down the waterfall into the plunge pool below. Sliding Rock is managed by USFS.
Location Description:
Work site will be Sliding Rock Recreation Area, Housing will be four mile away at The Cradle of Forestry In America Dormitory
