Title: Special Recreation Manager
Agency: Champaign Urbana Park District
Salary: Depending upon qualifications

The CUSR Manager is responsible for the administration, development, direction, and evaluation of a comprehensive recreation program for residents with special needs in the Champaign and Urbana Park Districts.

The CUSR Manager is responsible for the operations of an advisory board and reports to an administrative board. The CUSR Manager is also responsible for the supervision and operation of the Hays Recreation Center. In addition, the CUSR Manager also acts as the District’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance officer.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or equivalent Degree from an accredited college or university
Certification by NCTRC as a CTRS or eligibility to sit for exam and earn certificate within one year of hire is preferred
Certification or acquiring certification within one year of hire, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention by the Crisis Prevention Institute, First Aid and CPR and Lifeguard Certification is required
Must have three or more years of successful recreation programming, facility management, and/or supervision in a recreation setting
Ability and enthusiasm for making public presentations
Demonstrated knowledge of disabling conditions and experience in planning a wide range of recreation activities
Demonstrated ability to organize, budget, plan, and implement projects with multiple deadlines
Essential Functions

Conduct staff performance appraisals on a regular basis
Oversee recruitment, interviewing, training, and supervision of CUSR staff and volunteers
Oversee programs, evaluate and identify problems, and initiate solutions
Review, assign, and/or approve all CUSR staff involvement in conferences, workshops, and professional assignments
Visit and continually evaluate ongoing CUSR programs with the effort to provide better and more efficient services to the public
Set agenda and attend monthly Administrative Board meetings and attend both Park District Board meetings when necessary
Monitor ADA compliance and make recommended changes for accessibility to parks and facilities
Host Joint Board Meetings of the Champaign and Urbana Park Board of Commissioners as required
Formulate an annual budget for CUSR and work within budgetary constraints
Pursue alternative funding sources, including fundraisers, grants, gifts, and donations
Implementation of the CUSR strategic plan
Speak to community groups and give presentations concerning CUSR
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Administrative Board, Park Commissioners, Parent/Advisory Board, staff, and the general public
Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, other employees, and outside agencies
Must be able to take directions from a variety of people, prioritize, and to meet deadlines for simultaneous tasks
Continually review community development and interests for long range CUSR program planning
Considerations

Must have excellent time management and organizational skills and be able to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time
Must be able to resolve differences and problems that arise with staff, participants, and volunteers
Should exercise creativity and resourcefulness
Must excel at creating an effective team
May work long days, evenings, and some weekends
Work more than 40 hours per week, when necessary, to attend special events, programs, meetings, etc
