Description:
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, General, Physical or Special Education or related field preferred. Willing to consider exceptional Junior or Senior year college students in the related field. Must have 2 years of programming or leadership experience. Must have strong leadership abilities. Must demonstrate professionalism and possess strong oral and written communication skills as well as exceptional organizational skills. Must possess ability to effectively work in a team atmosphere and communicate effectively with individuals with disabilities, co-workers, agency and school staff and general public. Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, outgoing, energetic and have a pleasant disposition. Selected candidate must pass: Physical, Drug screen and be able to drive a 15 passenger accessible vehicle. Other requirements: TB shot; criminal background test and fingerprinting. CPR/First Aid/AED training required.
Duties: The Recreation Leader is responsible for leading a class of students in a brand new program within a school district. Leadership includes, but is not limited to: Working with Program Coordinator to implement recreational activities with students in the Adult Transition Program, ages 18-22. This includes a variety of recreational programs. Provide basic calendar of activities that will touch upon or include: Fitness; Health & Wellness; Cooking; In and Outdoor Sports-including Special Olympics; Self esteem; Self Awareness; Socialization; Independence; Problem Solving; Team Building Arts & Crafts; Cultural Arts; Drama; Dance; Drawing; Painting and Frustration Tolerance. Meeting and communicating with SWSRA Coordinator and be able to complete student assessment and continued monitoring and reporting with both SWSRA and school district
Details: The position is approximately 7-10 hours per week, Monday - Friday, beginning ASAP - May 22nd, 2014. The program is located in Oak Lawn, IL, and the hours are approximately 1:15PM - 2:30PM, with some additional hours for prep time and meetings. There will also be 3 field trips in this time frame that could be up to 6 hours on those given day. $15- $20 per hour, depending on qualifications.
