The therapeutic recreation program plays a vital part in the hospital’s therapeutic milieu and our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists are integral members of the multidisciplinary team. Under the direction of the Recreation Therapy Director, the Certified Recreation Therapy Specialist will:
· Understand and promote the importance of individuals of all ages living a healthy, meaningful leisure lifestyle.
· Assist with planning and implementing a diverse therapeutic recreation program with all units of the hospital.
· Engage patients in individual and/or group recreation programming. Individual and group programming will fall under the five activity domains: physical, social, intellectual, creative and spiritual.
· Possess knowledge and experience with conducting successful groups.
· Adapt programs as needed to match the functioning level and abilities of the patients.
· Possess knowledge and experience with managing behaviors.
· Complete documentation on patients.
· Understand and honor the established hospital rules, regulations and Policy and Procedures.
· Be available to work weekends, some evenings and holidays.
Requirements of this Position:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Therapy.
- Must be a Certified Recreational Therapy Specialist (CRTS) or eligible for certification.
- Related experience with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness preferred.
