Job Description
At Alden Estates of Shorewood, the Recreational Therapy Director is responsible for the oversight of the Activity Department which includes, but is not limited to staffing management, planning, organizing and developing the daily activities program all while infusing fun and excitement into the lives of our residents. Additionally, the Recreational Therapy Director is responsible for recruiting, developing and managing an enthusiastic and effective group of volunteers. As an integral member of the leadership team, we expect our Recreational Therapy Director to provide a resident centered approach when planning daily recreational activities. We are looking for a strong team player who can creatively incorporate interdisciplinary participation with innovative program activities.

Qualified candidates will have flexibility, availability, dedication and a keen understanding of the importance of your role within the facility as the driving force behind making a difference in the lives of our residents and their families. We are seeking someone who understands that they are directly responsible for creating a sense of purpose and meaning for our residents during one of the most important times in their lives. This career path requires an individual who has energy, wisdom, empathy, compassion, understanding, enthusiasm and humor to effectively interact with residents, their loved ones and our staff. Qualified candidates will possess the ability to plan fabulous parties and celebrations on major and minor holidays, birthdays, milestones and sometimes independently invent a reason to have a party for no real reason at all! Qualified candidates will be creative thinkers, have an ability to assist facility staff in thinking critically and take a leadership role in providing excellent activities/therapies for our residents.
Qualified candidates will at a minimum possess a 40-hour Activity Director Certificate, but ideal candidates will be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
