Recreation Specialist

Job Description
The Recreation Specialist will plan, implement and present low impact, outdoor recreation programs offered by Outdoor Recreation. Provides instruction and leadership for programs which may include, but are not limited to, bicycling, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, backpacking, winter activities, and adaptive recreation. Audiences include adults, youth, teens and seniors of all abilities. On average, the successful incumbent will devote 40% of their time specifically to adaptive recreation programs and 60% to other programming needs.
Essential Functions:

Provides low impact outdoor recreation and educational programs that serve to enhance Cleveland Metroparks mission and promotes environmental education and stewardship.

Plans and presents quality low impact outdoor recreation programs within the park district and at off-site locations.

Establishes program goals and objectives in cooperation with Outdoor Recreation Manager.

Presents programs at assigned locations. Programs may be at non-standard hours, on weekends, evenings and holidays.

Assists in evaluating programs, offers recommendations for improvement and actively participates in revision of programs.

Ensures that program content reflects the goals of Outdoor Recreation.

Maintains accurate records of programs delivered, attendance and program evaluation data.

Participates in special events or projects involving Outdoor Recreation as assigned.

Purchases supplies, as directed, for Outdoor Recreation programs.

Drives Outdoor Recreation truck/vans with trailers to transport equipment as required.

Assists in maintaining Outdoor Recreation equipment and program materials.

Assists in research, design, development and review of educational or promotional materials.

Maintains a current First Aid/CPR certification.

Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree with specialization in outdoor recreation, environmental education, environmental interpretation, natural resources or related discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.

Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing low-impact outdoor recreation programs for all ages.

Demonstrated experience and skill competency in leading at least five of the outdoor recreation activities identified below:

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.

Valid Ohio driver's license.

WAGE: $17.21 – $21.51 per hour
