Job Opportunity - Special Recreation Supervisor at the Belvidere Park District

DESCRIPTION

The Special Recreation Supervisor-Horizons is responsible for the creation, implementing, coordinating and evaluating for Camp Horizons, New Horizons and any other programs as assigned.

Applicants must be positive, organized, have an excellent work ethic and the ability to work effectively with special populations,parents, supervisors, staff and other community contacts.

This is a regular, full-time hourly position that reports to the Special Recreation Manager.

This position requires a minimum of 40 hour per week. Typical work days will be Monday-Friday. However, a combination of daytime, evening and weekend hours may be required when the need exists.

The starting salary range for this position is $13.00 - $16.00 per hour. This position includes an excellent benefit package.

Job Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Parks, Recreation & Tourism with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation preferred. • One - Two years of direct experience with special populations, program planning and behavior management. • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred. • Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience and training. • Valid Illinois driver’s license & good driving record required. • Successful criminal background check. • Can work independently and have a genuine interest in learning about working with people who have disabilities. • Recruit, select, train, supervise & evaluate staff and volunteers.
• Complete all appropriate agency paperwork. • Excellent customer service and communication skills. • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Instructor or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date. • Food Sanitation Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date. • Medic First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (or equivalent is required within 30 days of hire date. If not already certified, a training will be provided.
