2017 Scholarship for Students in Parks and Recreation
Application Deadline:  Wednesday, January 4, 2017

Apply Now for a $400 scholarship to attend the Annual Soaring to New Heights Conference in Chicago, January 19-21, 2017. This conference is an opportunity to attend educational courses and connect with park and recreation professionals from all over Illinois. 

 Criteria/Eligibility:
• Be an IPRA member (FREE MEMBERSHIP NOW FOR STUDENTS)
• Be a full-time student in the Park and Recreation field of study at an Illinois University
• Long term career to goal to work in the public park and recreation industry
• Student is in good academic standing
• Minimum of 100 hours of work within the field (paid or volunteer)
• Complete Application
• Provide a post experience reflection/evaluation
• Demonstrated financial assistance

 Deadline:
Applications must be submitted by January 4th, 2017.   Awards pending available funds will be awarded via telephone communication. Awardees will need to register for the conference and will receive reimbursement. Sometimes additional information will be requested from the individual before a decision can be made. No applications will be accepted after the due date.

 Process:
Upon submittal scholarship applications are sent to a University/College representative. The College/University then submits their recommendation to be reviewed by the Partners of the Illinois Park and Recreation Foundation which oversees the funding of scholarships. Each scholarship is designated to be used for the Annual IPRA/IAPD Soaring to New Heights Conference. Each scholarship will be for the amount of $400.

The Partners of Illinois Park and Recreation Foundation president will notify the applicant(s) when a decision has been made. If awarded a scholarship, please register for the event and pay required fees in full. Scholarship awardees will then be reimbursed after submitting a reflection and an evaluation of their conference experience.

FREE STUDENT MEMBERSHIP – INFORMATION
The Illinois Park & Recreation Association (IPRA) has some very exciting news to share! We are now offering students FREE membership! Any individual pursuing studies in the field of parks, recreation, conservation or related field (not employed full-time by a parks, recreation or conservation agency) can go to the IPRA website, , now and join.

Established in 1944, the Illinois Park and Recreation Association’s mission is to provide and promote exceptional standards of education, networking, and resources for all professionals in the Illinois Park, recreation, and conservation communities. Among the many member benefits we offer, student members may also take advantage of the following:

  • Reduced registration fees for the 2016 IAPD/IPRA Soaring to New Heights Conference (savings of over 50%). Student members may volunteer onsite and receive reimbursement for their registration fees. They may also apply for a scholarship from the Illinois Park & Recreation Foundation to offset travel costs.

IPRAConnect allows student members to communicate easily with other students, park & recreation professionals, and educators, in real time. We’ve recently launched our latest community, just for Students, and access is immediate!
  • Discounted rates on professional development, networking opportunities (like ProConnect and ProConnect South) and special events.
