Bradford Woods is nearing the end of a very busy Outdoor Education season this year. In many ways, it was the usual busy, but this year did some unusually so. We have had the opportunity to once again serve thousands of students. This fall also marked our 60th Anniversary of Environmental Education programs. It is also my 10th season at this particular Outdoor Center. I started my personal journey in 2002 while working as an outdoor instructor at a camp on Geneva Lake, Wisconsin. Those were the days when my "office" was largely the outdoors on any given day. I could be found teaching a trail group about trees, mammals, or weather, running a predator/prey game, belaying at the ropes course, making maple syrup and a whole host of other things. Little did I know the experience would transform my life into what it is today.
One of my passions is to work with emerging leaders, to give them a chance to do what I did back then; to teach and facilitate, but also learn and grow themselves. If you are receiving this letter, you also work with students or emerging leaders and are also eager to see them set off on their own personal journey. When speaking with each of them, please consider sharing about opportunities at Bradford Woods.
When I consider what makes Bradford Woods unique, here are several things that come to mind:
- 60-year program history
- Curriculum-based Enviornmental Ed.
- International recognition
- Universal Design
- Inclusive Programming
- University affiliation
- Broad program scope
- Environment Ed., Adventure Ed., Military Programs, Rec Therapy
