The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at Brock University has a number of graduate degree opportunities for the upcoming academic year. Offerings are available in our MA program in Leisure Studies and our Ph.D program in Socio-Cultural Health. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2015 but late applications may be considered.
Brock University is located in St. Catharines, ON and is situated atop the beautiful Niagara Escarpment as part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The campus is just over one hour away from both Toronto and Buffalo, NY. Our program offers a collaborative mentorship style of study in a student-oriented environment.
MA students receive funding of $14,500/year guaranteed for two years.
PhD students receive funding of $24,000/year guaranteed for four years.
PhD students are also required to teach a minimum of one course while at Brock as part of their professional and pedagogical development. Brock is dedicated to the professional development of its graduate students and provides many such opportunities (http://brocku.ca/graduate-studies/current-students).
Graduate students may also be employed in one of our faculty's research projects. Graduates of our program have gone on to pursue further graduate work (PhD at Brock and other universities across North America as well as the United Kingdom) and our graduates have also been very successful in finding employment in the field (YMCA, Amica Mature Lifestyles, Alive Outdoors, Municipal Recreation, Youth University).
