The Department of Community and Therapeutic Recreation in the School of Health and Human Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is accepting applications for our Master of Science (MS) degree program for the upcoming academic year. This 36-credit program prepares graduates to work in managerial and supervisory positions in public, commercial, non-profit, and therapeutic recreation venues.
Graduate Assistantships and tuition waivers are available for master’s students in the 2016-17 academic year on a competitive basis. Graduate Assistants will work closely with nationally recognized faculty in Community Recreation Management or Therapeutic Recreation. Scholarly areas of the faculty include community recreation and parks needs assessments; relationships between park characteristics and health; inclusion of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the community; physical activity of children with physical disabilities, the effects of leisure on stress and quality of life of family caregivers; pediatric pain management; the impact of disability and hospitalization on child development, and complementary and alternative medicine interventions.
UNCG is located in Greensboro, NC, a beautiful and thriving city, with a population of approximately 270,000. The city has its own symphony orchestra, community theater, arts council, civic ballet, and many outstanding public and private recreation areas and facilities including golf courses, aquatic center, swimming pools, water parks, marinas, tennis, and racquet clubs, physical fitness centers, ice skating arenas, and natural resource areas. Greensboro is located in the Piedmont Triad. North Carolina’s mountain resorts are an easy 2-hour drive from Greensboro and the beaches of North and South Carolina are 3 to 4 hours away.
