Job Title:         Before and After School Counselor/Class Instructor

Department:    Hartman Recreation Center, Recreation

Reports To:     Facility Manger – Recreation Superintendent

Prepared By:   Facility Manager – Recreation Superintendent

 

Hours:  15-25 per week depending on programs

Wage:  TBD

Location:  Hartman Recreation Center

 

SUMMARY:

The before/after school counselor creates a safe, fun environment for school aged children.  Under the guidance of the Head Counselor, counselors’ are primarily responsible for providing and implementing a high quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum in specific program areas, ensuring children’s social, physical and mental development in the program. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Implement the character counts curriculum on a daily basis.

 

Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the age of the children in the program.

 

Responsible for the safety of the children in the program.

 

Know health emergency procedures and evacuation plans.

 

Assist in homework help and tutoring needs.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Teach specific classes at Joliet District 86 schools.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Successfully complete pre-employment background check.

 

A positive attitude and mature personality conducive to working effectively as a team player with diverse members, staff, volunteers and parents/guardians.

 

Responsible, dependable, tenacious, and problem solver.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Minimum high school diploma
